Arts week in Jigsaw 2019

Arts week – 2019

During Arts week, we were given the theme of Woodlands.

We decided to focus on leaves and spent time exploring them in a variety of  different ways.

We collected a variety of different leaves from around the school and spent time observing them, noticing their patterns and textures.

We then used paint to explore this further, printing the leaves patterns onto paper – we used a variety of colours and experimented with mixing the paint on the palettes and on the leaves

Later on in the week, we used the printing technique to make the outlines of leaves onto Binca material and we then use thread to sew on extra detail onto the leaf shapes. We continued to explore this by printing the leaves onto felt and adding further detail with pen, paint and thread.

History and Geography in Jigsaw

This half term in Jigsaw, we will be focussing on History and Geography topics, involving The Stone Age, based around the book, Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura. We will be exploring all aspects of Stone Age life, including homes, clothing, hunting, tools, art work and animals.

Reading at home

Please support the children to read and share their books at home with you over the week. Children are expected to have read at least 3 times each week at home and to have comments entered into their reading diaries.

Comments can be about how they have used their phonic knowledge to decode words, if they have told you about the characters or plot of the story, if they have answered any questions you have asked or if they have predicted what might happen within their book or story.

Reading diaries are checked each week, on a Friday, so please support the children to do this. Reading at home encourages and improves the children’s confidence and fluency, therefore is very important.

Jigsaw update

We are continuing with outdoor PE every Thursday afternoon. The weather is still cold so please ensure the children have appropriate clothing and footwear.

We have completed lessons playing hockey, basketball and football, and we will look to move onto Tag Rugby when we return after half term.

ROBIN AND THE SHERWOOD HOODIES – Y5 & 6 PERFORMANCE

Yesterday, after weeks of hard work, year five and six shared their performance of Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies with friends and family at Abraham Darby.

The show acted as a leavers’ performance for year six so they embraced the roles and year five did a brilliant job of supporting the singing. The children were fantastic and should be really proud of themselves.

A big thankyou to Abraham Darby for the use of their theatre for the performance and our rehearsals beforehand. The children loved the setting and enjoyed being in the spotlight. We are already looking forward to next year!

CRUCIAL CREW Y6 KB and Jigsaw

On Tuesday, Y6 KB class and Jigsaw enjoyed a day out at Crucial Crew – a Telford & Wrekin event aimed at ensuring children’s safety in a variety of situations.

They took part in a wide range of practical activities including saving one another from ‘water’ using rope and sports activities such as the parachute.

They interacted wonderfully with the agencies there and asked lots of questions. Hopefully they have learnt a lot!
